The Benefits of Boudoir Photography Feel Beautiful Be Empowered
As an insecure young woman I spent hours in front of the mirror picking myself apart. Back when I was a teen we had three way mirrors in the bathroom – the worst type of mirror ever invented allowed countless woman to dissect her flaws from every possible angle. As I grew older, and after a lot of life experience, I came to realize that I was my own worst critic.
As a photographer, it is my job to bring out the best in everyone. Taking advantage of the best lighting, angles and expressions with the goal of achieving the best photo a client has ever seen of themselves. If it’s that process of having all the right elements to make someone look and feel good, I’m thinking I might be on to something here…
Two years ago I decided to shoot a boudoir session. I found a make-up artist and with a few willing participants away I went. At the time I didn’t realize just how significant boudoir photography could be to a woman’s well being but as I shot more woman I kept seeing a common thread; an obvious change in attitude… a hop in the step, a new found confidence.I named my boudoir The Beautiful Woman Project because to me, getting a woman from self deprecation to self appreciation is truly a project.
Woman are now beginning to see the emotional benefits of having a boudoir session and learning to accept themselves as beautiful and empowered no matter what stage of their life. A much needed pick me up for a new mom or a milestone birthday present, whatever the reason, it’s good for the soul and a great way to spice up a relationship too.
With the surge of boudoir clients forcing me out of my home studio, I moved to a 2000 square foot space that gives woman a luxury experience starting from the moment she walks in the door. Designed with woman in mind, our studio is all girl. Situated in a heritage building with the original tin ceilings and hardwood floors, chandeliers and beautiful things we have 10 different sets to choose from. It’s a wonderful place where woman can relax and let go. Our all female staff ensure that the ladies feel pampered with soft music, a glass of wine and a full make-over before their session. Our clients leave feeling beautiful and pampered; it’s a unique experience.
If you are planning a session, here are some tips for you.
Don’t wait . This is about self acceptance, it’s about learning to appreciate yourself just as you are! We all have self perceived flaws.. a great photographer will focus on your assets and bring out the beauty that others see in you. Seeing yourself with makeup, great lighting, and the right angles only a skilled photographer can achieve — is a powerful way to fight back against fear and insecurity!
Choose a photographer that suits your comfort level. Every photographer has their own style. Do you prefer, sexy, vampy, romantic, provocative, nude, implied nude?
Budget for your session! This is an investment in you! You deserve it. Forget everything else for a moment and think of what it is worth for you to feel confident and beautiful… honestly, it can be priceless. There are some costs involved if you are going to do it right. Hair and make-up, lingerie, your session fee and the cost of an album and a display (or two). The entire experience from a seasoned professional can run anywhere from $500 up to $2500.
Boudoir photographers work from their home, outdoors, your home, a hotel or a studio. Decide what type of experience it is you are going for and hire the photographer that is the best fit for you. You’re probably only going to do this once in your lifetime so make it memorable!
Every woman is beautiful. It doesn’t matter your shape, age, weight or height you deserve a day in the spotlight. When you see those photos in the days, months and years that follow, it will be with a lasting appreciation for your glorious beauty.
