Interview With John Cleary One of England’s Top Boudoir Photographers

An interview with John Cleary from JC Boudoir

Why do your clients pick you?

We go out of our way to make the whole session a great experience; no two sessions are ever the same because we take time to understand our client’s motivation for doing boudoir and try to build a theme around that whenever possible. On the day, we greet our clients with a warm smile and a glass of fine champagne on arrival, we recognise that it’s probably the scariest thing that they’ve ever done and we work hard to alleviate any nerves before we start the photography session. Our hair and makeup artist is very good at putting them at their ease as we transform them ready for their session. Once the photography starts we like to have a bit of a laugh to break any initial tension and I find our clients usually relax into it fairly quickly. We never forget that our clients aren’t models and so don’t know what to do, I usually demonstrate the poses for them first which is usually enough to keep the laughter flowing.

They love our distinctive photographic style and our gorgeous upmarket albums. We have a range for both women and men depending on who the gift is for.

Where do you operate?

We’re based in Warwickshire and work mainly in the middle of England but because we’re not studio based we can operate all over the UK.

So where do you take your boudoir photographs?

Usually we hire a gorgeous suite in an upmarket boutique hotel near our clients home town, sometimes they prefer to travel to Birmingham near us or if our client has a large elegant home she may ask us to work there.

Why did you decide to specialise in boudoir photography?

It’s really not something that I ever thought that I would or could do, but it broke my heart to see so many beautiful women appear on Gok Wan’s “How To Look Good Naked” TV programme in the UK that hate their bodies and have little or no body confidence. Clearly they want to feel better or they wouldn’t go on the show but I realised that through my photography I too have an opportunity to make women feel great about themselves and their bodies.

I will never tire of seeing my clients transformed during a boudoir session and leaving with so much confidence….and then crying tears of joy when they see the resulting images….it is the best job in the world and I consider myself so fortunate to have the trust of my clients in order to make that difference to them.

How can new clients get in touch?

They can call, email or contact us through our website. We’re always happy to chat without obligation to discuss any concerns our new clients may have prior to booking.
