Boudoir posing and clothing ideas

Posted July 18, 2010 by admin in Blog | 4 comments

Once or twice a week I would like to post boudoir photos to help you, the client,  with posing and clothing ideas for your upcoming boudoir shoot.  This set of photos of Amber Long   taken by me, Robin Owen are very soft and elegant. We were blessed with  gorgeous natural window light that day and I took full advantage of it.  The photos are very sexy without being too reveling.  The location you shoot in plays a big part in the quality of your images.  While a good photographer who knows their equipment and lighting can usually make most any location work, we can do oh so much more with a beautiful and exciting environment. For you girls who can splurge on a swanky, upscale hotel room for your boudoir session do it!  It will make your photos that much more stunning.

THE BOUDOIR EXPERIENCE

THE BOUDOIR EXPERIENCE

Imagine his surprise when, just hours before the wedding, he receives a gift of intimate photos of you! Boudoir photo sessions are increasingly popular with brides and makes a wonderful groom’s gift but It’s not only brides who are searching out boudoir photographers. Many women do it for them selves to celebrate their femininity.

“Couture boudoir is a luxury experience,” says Shannon Michelle who runs www.shannon-michelle.com, a Boston based photography site. “It’s an avant-Gard approach to boudoir photography in which the same posing and lighting techniques used on professional fashion models are used for privately commissioned clients.”
“Fashion photography is very exciting and I love every minute of it. But to be able to give the gift of photography, where the client feels pretty and confident, is very rewarding. The images are a reminder of just how beautiful they are and how they felt at that very moment. It’s a perfect gift for yourself, a birthday, anniversary, holiday, or special occasion.”

10 Ways to Prepare for your Boudoir Shoot by The Boudoir Maven

Posted June 25, 2010 by admin in Boudoir Tips | No comments yet

Let’s face it, most people do not enjoy having their photos taken. So you can only imagine how that discomfort must increase ten-fold when they decide to do a boudoir shoot. In their underwear.

Never fear, I am here to give you a few simple tips on preparing for your boudoir shoot. And they do not include starving yourself or working out like a mad woman. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, curvy looks best in this type of photography (and in real life in my opinion!)

1. Do not apply fake tanner. I know this is hard, especially if you are totally white like I am. But really, the camera is only going to enhance that un-natural orange glow you have and you will end up looking weird.

2. Do apply lotion. LOTS of lotion, or oil. By keeping your skin super moisturized, you will create a natural looking glow that will come across in your photos as ethereal and heavenly.

3. Wear false eyelashes. I really can’t stress this one enough. When I did my first shoot, all of the girls opted to wear false lashes. They make look somewhat fake in real life and you may feel weird wearing them. However, in the photos they make a HUGE difference. You actually don’t really notice them in the pictures, but you will notice their effect. They accentuate your eyes and give them a gorgeous almond shape. These are a must-have!

Bridal Boudoir by Belle

Posted June 19, 2010 by admin in Photographer Spotlight | No comments yet

Boudoir photography is a sexy gift for your groom and a keepsake for yourself. You may have recently indulged in spa treatments, kicked your butt at boot camps, had a spray tan, and acquired a large collection of lingerie at your bachelorette party – so what are you waiting for?

We’re currently planning our first ever Bridal Boudoir Marathon on May 15th and 16th with ten fabulous soon-to-be-brides. A beautiful new bed set is in store for the event along with a small collection of bridal accessories. With brides heavy on my mind, I thought it’d be perfect timing to discuss what to bring to a wedding themed boudoir session. We have a helpful discussion on What To Wear to our regular sessions, but the tips below are specific to brides and even those planning an anniversary gift.

Wear white. Bring something white such as a vintage slip, a baby doll nightie, or a lacy white teddy. Complete the look with our strand of real pearls and various hair pieces.

One Brides boudoir experience from beginning to end..

From about the moment I shrieked ‘Yes!’ as my adoring fiancé got down on one knee, my brain has morphed from sane and reasonably put together to a romanticized mush of incessant wedding planning. Scouring through endless bridal magazines and websites, my first order of duty has been to find the perfect photographer to document our journey into husband and wife. A photographer myself, this has been no easy feat as I have picked apart and cast away every professional photographer out there. I needed someone who was equal parts inventive, professional and friendly, ready to take on and become an integral asset of this momentous event. This is when I stumbled upon Philbrick Photography, hiding somewhere in my heap of magazines. The full-page ad of a bride and groom nestled into a cliff, surrounded by fog and rock, was alluring enough to make me rip out the page and study the image. I loved its composition, idea, color, everything. It was more than a traditional wedding image of some couple; this was a work of art of this couple, and exactly what I was looking for.

The Different styles of boudoir photography

Posted May 14, 2010 by admin in Boudoir Tips | No comments yet

Boudoir doesn’t  have only one look.  There are many different styles  that fall under the catagory of Boudoir, everything from sweet and sexy to the more daring and provocative.    It’s important that you find a photographer you can relate to.  You have to be able to tell them exactly what you want without being shy about it. You don’t want to find out the day of your session that your photographer doesn’t want to do topless or bottomless photos if that is what you are looking for.   I usually come right out and ask my girls if they want any nude shots. If they say yes, I ask them how much they are comfortable showing and how provocative they want to be.  Being a boudoir photographer is a unique profession.
