Boudoir For Men or “Doudoir” Photography by Elizabeth Osterberger

| Blog | March 27, 2013

Boudoir for men or “dudoir” as some like to call it, goes beyond what women’s boudoir usually entails. Men are not as frequently photographed “for fun” like women are. My idea of specializing in photographs of men, is to show that men can be sexy and confident in front of the camera just like women.
To me, dudoir photos can range from awesome portraits of men to artistic nudes to yes, lying around on the bed in their underwear!
The photos can be for themselves, their lovers (both male and female) or just to do for fun….some of my clients see it as a freeing experience!
I just love the male form and wish to reach a market not often marketed to, so that great images are made!

Las Vegas Boudoir Photography by Robin Owen

| Blog | March 17, 2013

If you are looking for a New Jersey,  New York or Las Vegas boudoir photographer please visit Robin Owen Photography for more information on booking a session.

The Las Vegas boudoir workshop, which took place in my suite at the Signature during WPPI, was a big hit. We covered a lot of ground in three short hours but I think one of the most helpful things students learned was the ability to use manual flash without fear, and problem solving. For example, there were two framed images hanging behind the bed where our model was posing. Every time we took a shot the flash showed up in the glass. Everyone in the class got involved in fixing the problem. We tried removing the artwork from the wall, stuffing tea bags behind them to change the angle of the glass, changing the angle of the light, and a variety of other things until we found a solution. When something isn’t working jump in there and try to fix it. There are no hard and fast rules.  It was an aaaha -moment for the students. Many new photographers think there’s a concrete  formula for setting up your lights but in reality what you need to do is experiment and move your  lights around until you get the light where you need it. You must learn to *see* the light.  A hands on class really is the way to go when you’re learning to light. No matter how much you read about lighting there is no substitute to hands on learning.
We also covered shooting reflections in doors, mirrors, windows, glass table tops, and in the glass of framed artwork on the wall. Learning to shoot reflections is a great way to create a variety of different looks for your client. Once the sun set we moved the workshop out onto the balcony and set up off camera flash. We photographed our  model with the lights from the Las Vegas Strip in the background and the results were stunning.

If you have the opportunity to take a workshop that allows you to work hands on with lighting equipment, take it! You won’t be sorry you did. Here are some images taken at the workshop. The first two were reflections shot in the sliding glass doors. The second two were shot on the balcony using off camera flash.

Robin Owen Photography is now offering exotic destination boudoir shoots to clients. If you are interested in having your boudoir images taken in Vegas please contact the studio for more information.

You Are Beautiful! Capture Your Beauty In Boudoir Images.

| Blog | October 18, 2012

Stop. Step away from the mirror. Step off of the scale. Breathe. You are perfect just the way you are.

We as women face the world and it’s preconceived notions of what it is to be beautiful from the moment we are born. “Beauty” is what graces the cover of magazines and is thrown in your face as a child with Barbie and Bratz Dolls. You are never going to attain that “ideal.” Stop trying. We aren’t meant to, we are Real Women. As a photographer, I can let you in on something, just about everything you see being shoved down your throat as “perfect,” “ideal,” “flawless,” is photo shopped and enhanced. As a woman making my way back up the confidence ladder, I can tell you, love yourself now. Accept yourself for what you have, who you are and stop trying to be something you are not. If you were meant to be a child’s size 14, you would have stopped growing at that point. Instead, you are a woman, you have curves, and they are beautiful. There is nothing wrong with being a curvy gal, there is nothing wrong with being a petite gal, we are all beautiful.

Here is a simple exercise for gaining confidence. If you are going to look in the mirror, do it with love. What are your favorite features? Remind yourself that you are not perfect, and that is A-Okay because your (eyes, lips, hips, butt, boobs, feet etc.) are AMAZING. Don’t let anyone tell you different. Every time you are having a less beautiful moment, look in the mirror. Deep into your own eyes-and repeat: “I celebrate myself and sing myself!” If you’re not a Whitman fan, simply state something along the lines of “I am beautiful, I am sexy, I am powerful, I can take on the world, and I will!”  Now repeat it over and over. Every time you see your reflection, tell yourself how hot you are. If you are passing by a shop window and catch a glimpse of yourself say, “Damn I look good.” or “I’m so fine I’d do myself”. Yeah that’s right, you are THAT hot! Try it, you will laugh and giggle at yourself all day for thinking these things, and not only will it keep a smile on your face, which truly is your best feature, you will exude confidence like you haven’t before, and people will notice! If anyone asks why you keep smiling, simply reply, “I’m just thinking of something beautiful.”

Now, don’t you feel a bit better? Be proud to be a real woman. Be proud of your imperfections and stand taller knowing that you don’t need Photoshop to really be beautiful. If you believe it, so will everyone else.

Nervous about having professional boudoir photos taken?

Nervous about having professional boudoir photos taken?

Do you secretly think to yourself that you’d love, love, love to have beautiful sexy images taken, but you’re not brave enough to step in front of a camera with a photographer who is a complete stranger? You don’t want them to see your flaws and you’re afraid of being judged. And as badly as you want those images you think to yourself that there’s no way the photographer will be able to hide your stretch marks, or your belly. Maybe your breasts aren’t as perky as they used to be after having children or you have cellulite. These are the private thoughts most women have that stop them from calling a boudoir photographer and making an appointment.  I’m here to assure you that the professional photographers won’t judge you. Every woman who walks through our door has issues. No one is perfect!  A good boudoir photographer can create gorgeous images of every woman. At my studio we use only the best hair and makeup teams, I use light and shadow to hide problem areas and I know how to pose the human body to make it look thinner. There are also things that can be done in post processing that give your images that extra special something.

You will never have beautiful images if you don’t take a chance, be brave and call a photographer. Don’t let your insecurities stop you! Browse through our list of amazing photographers on The Boudoir Photography Network and find one near you. If you’re not sure how to choose a good one, call or email me, Robin Owen, at 240-925-9679 rlowen@md.metrocast.net.  I’ll be more than happy to recommend someone and answer any lingering questions you may have.

Boudoir Photos – Perfect Gift For The Man Who Has Everything!

| Blog | October 7, 2012

Are you looking for that perfect gift for your man? Why not give him the sexiest gift he has ever received! Remember girl’s men are visual creatures and every man loves seeing his girl at her very best. The holidays are fast approaching so right now is the time to find a boudoir photographer and schedule your session. It can take as long as 6 weeks to have a custom boudoir album made. Your photographer needs time to do your shoot, edit your photos, and have you come in for a proofing session, design the album and send it off to the lab. The lab needs time to print the album and mail it back to the photographer and then it needs to be picked up by you. It’s quite a process so don’t put off making that appointment any longer. We have some amazing boudoir photographers in every price range listed on The Boudoir Photography Network. Take a look through our listings and find one near you.

Boudoir Photography – Why Profesional Hair & Makeup Are Important

| Boudoir Tips | October 2, 2012

Many elements must come together to achieve truly spectacular, high-quality boudoir images. The skill of your photographer is critical. A photographer must excel at lighting, posing and should be able to help clients feel relaxed in front of the camera.  You need to trust your boudoir photographer, so hire one you feel comfortable with. A client’s wardrobe can also have an effect on the look and feel of the session and should be chosen carefully. All of these things are important, but today I would like to specifically discuss the effect that professional hair and makeup has on your images.

Many boudoir photographers often overlook this important piece of the puzzle in an attempt to make your session more affordable. If your photographer isn’t offering hair and makeup in your package, I suggest you take it upon yourself to arrange for an appointment at a local salon right before your session. I also recommend you have your MUA (makeup artist) apply false eyelashes. The fee for false eyelashes is nominal and they make your eyes appear big and beautiful.

The images below illustrate the impact good hair and makeup has on a woman’s appearance.
